In line with its mission of working with communities, especially women and children, in rural areas to contribute towards sustainable human development using popular education methodologies, below are the organisation's core programmes;
1) Gender Analysis And Awareness Raising
Women for Change undertakes activities to promote and support gender sensitivity. This ensures that women and men in WFC operational areas are gender sensitive and able to act on gender issues affecting them. Gender analysis activities are also intended to raise gender awareness among rural women in remote areas of their rights in order to create a firm foundation for social change.
2) Human Rights Education
Women For Change facilitates Human Rights Education among rural women and men as well as traditional leaders so that they actively on human rights issues that affect them and are able to act on human rights issues affecting them, and also that they can demand their basic rights such as clean water, food, education, health and shelter. This programme also entails to enhance their active participation of communities and traditional leaders in the governance of the country.
3) Income Generating Activities
This programme economically empowers rural communities in a gender balanced manner so as to uplift their status and improve standards of living. WFC also facilitates the development of viable and participatory co-operatives. WFC group members are involved in various activities such as: goat-keeping, piggery, trading, and gardening.
4) Advocacy
Women for Change advocates for policies and practices that are gender-sensitive, just and effectively respond to the plight of the poor. Additionally, WFC promotes public awareness on rights of women and children, and influences policy formation and change on the development needs of these groups as well as on identification, planning and implementation of development programmes.
5) Overall Youth and Child Development
Women for Change has been striving to make meaningful children’s rights - particularly for rural children - as stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). However, it is important to know that in our Zambian traditional context, it is virtually impossible to isolate the child from her/his family. Hence, this programme is impelemented through activities to economically empower the family. It is only through this holistic approach that the child will benefit and enjoy his/her rights such as leisure, education, health services and others. Women for Change also has a skills empowerment programme for youthsi n its operational areas. Youths are trained in carpentry, gardening and seed farming, among other skills, and are provided with necessary tools and inputs to sustain themselves economically.
6) HIV/AIDS Sensitization and Impact Mitigation
Women for Change is working towards poverty eradication in the WFC operational areas because of a strong conviction that there is a link between poverty, gender, human rights and HIV/AIDS. Women for Change is also intensifying advocacy for policies and practices that are gender sensitive, just and effectively respond to the plight of the poor and those affected and/or infected by HIVAIDS.
