WfC to launch SADC Council for Traditional Leaders -
19 March, 2007
Women for Change (WfC), in conjunction with the traditional leaders in the region, will launch the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council for Traditional Leaders.
The Council is the regional forum for traditional leaders from the SADC region. It is aimed at promoting the participation of traditional leaders in the development and governance processes, both at the national and regional levels, and to reclaim the concept of human rights from the African context.
The council is also aimed at enhancing knowledge of traditional leaders in the SADC region by giving them an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on specific and regional experiences in the field of human rights, development, gender, HIV/AIDS and governance issues.
WfC is the interim Secretariat for the Council and has been in the forefront of spearheading the formation and the launch of the Council. The Council was formed in the year 2002.
The launch is scheduled to take place sometime this year in Swaziland on a date to be announced soon.
WfC is currently soliciting for funds to support the launch
