Area Associations
WFC Area Association Structure

When Women for Change starts operating in a new community, community members are advised to form groups and later on area associations, which are community based organisations (CBO). Ten groups in the same area come together to form an area association which is a self-governing Community Based Organisation (CBO). The area association provides a forum for exchange of ideas and experiences between groups. Its leadership comprises two representatives from each group. Its role is to oversee the work of the groups and supplement the work of the Field animator. It also provides a mechanism for self-rule even after Women for Change pulls out of the area and weans off the groups. At the moment, some area associations in certain districts have started forming District Development Associations that are coordinating all the activities of the district.
